Fusion Middleware - Web Center

Abstract:

Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g is industry standard for enterprise applications. One of the key technical advantages of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g is a unified approach for application development. You can implement and reuse Oracle ADF 11g applications across entire Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g stack. This session will explain how to use ADF Faces components for Human Tasks UI implementation. An application will be invoked in Oracle BPM 11g Worklist application. Also how to call Human Worklow service of Oracle SOA/BPM 11g Suite directly without using the Oracle BPM 11g Worklist application will be demonstrated. The presenter will show how to consume Human Worklow services from custom ADF Task Flows, using standard Web Service Data Control. These ADF Task Flows will implement custom screens for Human Workflow functions - initiate, approve, and reject actions. Human Task payload will be populated from ADF Business Components module. Implemented ADF Task Flows will be invoked and demonstrated inside Oracle WebCenter Spaces 11g environment.

ODTUG Kscope11: Oracle ADF 11g - Driving Power for Oracle SOA/BPM/WebCenter 11g Integration

I have received confirmation for ODTUG Kscope11 conference abstract acceptance - Oracle ADF 11g - Driving Power for Oracle SOA/BPM/WebCenter 11g Integration. It will be my 4th time on ODTUG, this year - Long Beach, California, June 26-30.

During the session, I will describe and present ADF 11g as a key framework you can employ while working with SOA, BPM, WebCenter implementations. As it should be during technical conference, I will show various technical integration scenarios - for example custom worklist application functionality based on SOA/BPM human workflow, by implementing custom ADF Faces screen and managing transactional state through ADF BC. There will be a demo about SOA/BPM 11g integration into WebCenter Spaces 11g.

You will see that it is impossible to have complete SOA/BPM 11g or WebCenter 11g implementations without applying ADF 11g framework.

Myself, I will be happy to learn new stuff from the colleagues around the globe. See you in June.

ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2010 - Feedback

I was busy on ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2010 conference this week in Washington DC. It was pretty good technical level conference with lots of material for SOA/BPM/ADF field as well. I was delivering my session there - Developing Large ADF 11g Applications. I'm not uploading my slides, because there is simply nothing to upload, as my usual style - I was doing lots of technical live demos and explanations. If you are interested, I was talking based on following blog posts - Integration.

Let me tell you briefly what sessions I found interesting and what I have learned new.

1. Oracle ACE Director briefing. While I'm not allowed to tell any news from this briefing on public, I can tell you - many improvements and exciting new features are coming in next JDeveloper 11g and Oracle Enterprise Eclipse Pack releases. ADF EMG statistics were presented on this session as well.

2. SOA and BPM Symposium on Sunday. Was great day, with good technical content and workshops. Probably, the most useful for me was - What is SOA Full Lifecycle? presentation delivered by ACE Directors Hajo Normann and Torsten Winterberg. They gave excellent theoretical overview and did couple of practical demos with new Oracle BPM 11g studio using JDeveloper 11g.

3. Creating SOA Composite Applications with ADF and SOA Suite 11g by Juan Ruiz. Juan is Senior Product Manager from Oracle JDeveloper 11g team. His session was packed with practical examples and lots of people were attending as well. Once again I saw how Oracle ADF brings all Oracle Fusion products together, by implementing rich UI functionality.

4. BPM in 2010 - Myths and Reality by ACE Director Hajo Normann. Was very well explained the difference between complete SOA and BPM approaches.

5. BPM - The Business Face of SOA by ACE Director Mark Simpson. Mark have explained his experience implementing SOA projects. Especially well he have explained most typical business challenges when adopting SOA architecture.

6. How to Hack an ADF Application by ACE Director Anton Nielsen. Session title sounds scary, but good news from this session - ADF framework is un-hackable. As speaker said, only intentional developer implemented bad practice can cause problems, speaker didn't found hackable holes in ADF framework. Hmm..., may be session title should be changed then? :)

7. WebLogic Server for ADF and Oracle Forms 11g Developers by Mark Prichard from Oracle. Really cool presenter, I enjoyed this session and learned new things about shared libraries on WebLogic server.

8. Attention Oracle Developers: Find those Java Memory Leaks Fast ! by Mark Prichard from Oracle. Second part of session from point #7. I have learned useful stuff about JRockit Mission Control for WebLogic Server performance monitoring and about new tool called - Flight Recorder. It will allow to record WebLogic Server statistics and review them easily even after server crash.

9. Rapid Development for Mobile Devices with Oracle JDeveloper and Oracle ADF by Duncan Mills from Oracle. It was good demo about how to use ADF Mobile and develop apps for small screens.

10. What Makes a Service a Good Service? by ACE Director Torsten Winterberg. One more good session about SOA with indepth architect type information about how to implement and orchestrate your services.

11. Derisk Your SOA - Traps You Should be Aware Of by ACE Director Matjaz Juric. Very good presentation especially for those people, who are planning to adopt SOA, you can learn a lot from first hand experience. Matjaz was giving many examples of successful and failed SOA implementations along with explanations why it was success or failure.

12. Oracle JDeveloper 11g JAX-WS Web Services - As Easy As 1-2-3 - XSD, WSDL, Generate! by ACE Director Chris Muir. Yeah, even this session title sounds as very complex one, Chris was explaining JDev/WS related stuff in very clear way, with lots of technical demos - kudos for this.

This conference had much more interesting sessions, if I don't mention them - it is only because I wasn't able to attend some of them.

Developing Large Oracle ADF 11g Applications on ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2010

Good news, my paper - Developing Large Oracle ADF 11g Applications is accepted for ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2010 in Washington, D.C.

During this session I will talk and mostly show how you can organize application structure when developing with Oracle ADF 11g. I will demo ADF Libraries usage for applications integration and will describe various reusability techniques based on my integration posts.

Good Bye New Orleans - I'm Going Home

Today was my last day in New Orleans, going home tomorrow - yesterday was last day of ODTUG Kaleidoscope'08. I decided to spend some time today for tourism activities and visit New Orleans swamp where alligators live. I was using New Orleans High Speed Airboat tour, it was cool, I recommend it for everyone who will be there. Yes..., alligators also are friendly, sometimes... :-)

APEX Versus ADF

During this year ODTUG Kaleidoscope'08 conference, almost everyone is talking and comparing APEX with ADF and ADF with APEX. It sounds quite funny for me and just a waste of time in most of the cases. Both products are good and both have areas where can be used. However, APEX is not a central and strategic tool in Oracle. JDeveloper/ADF is strategic combination and powers next generation of Oracle Applications.

Basically speaking, as Tom Kyte said during his "How Do You Know What You Know..." keynote on Sunday - "APEX is a database browser". APEX power is in rapid and departmental style applications, when user friendly database interface is needed.

JDeveloper/ADF is a different story, this technology allows to develop organization wide system and to solve so important nowadays integration problems.

I have heard, it happens in organizations with dominant PL/SQL expertise, that people suggest to develop complete enterprise systems only with APEX :-) In my personal opinion, both APEX and ADF are the best in their areas, just its very dangerous to think like this - "since I'm expert in this product, I can do everything only with this product".

Funny Souvenir from New Orleans

During Fat Tuesday event on ODTUG Kaleidoscope'08 I got funny picture of myself. Sure, it will be good souvenir and will remind me New Orleans :-)

ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2008

I'm enjoying this year ODTUG Kaleidoscope conference. I already did my two presentations, Development with Oracle JDeveloper/ADF 11g Reusing 10g Best Practices was on Monday (June 16) and "Oracle Forms Conversion to ADF 11g at VGO" was yesterday (June 17) during Oracle ACE Directors briefing. Presentation on Monday was well attended and I met a couple of my blog readers ;-)

My colleague - Rob Nocera, was presenting "Using ADF 11g as Platform for Oracle Client/Server Forms Conversions" topic and he got very good feedback from audience. He was doing demo during his presentation as well.

Most interesting sessions I have attended are those:

• "The State of the Fusion Address - Fusion Middleware Project Status Report" by Duncan Mills (Oracle Corporation)
  
• "Service Oriented Development with Oracle ADF Business Components and BPEL" by Shaun O'Brien and Clemens Utschig (Oracle Corporation)
  
• "Keeping Your Leftovers Fresh with JDeveloper - New Reusability Features in 11g" by Shaun O'Brien (Oracle Corporation)

I got clear view during this conference - Oracle Fusion Middleware is not anymore something abstract and unclear. Oracle FMW became focused on Oracle ADF framework, based on ADF Business Components. Its not a surprise, since new generation of Oracle Applications is based on this platform. However, Oracle TopLink (available in Model part of Oracle ADF) is used in Oracle SOA related products and solutions.

And of course, its a lot of fun to meet other Oracle ACE Directors with whom you chat almost every day - Chris Muir and Frans Thamura.

One Day Before ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2008

Hey New Orleans, I'm arrived to ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2008. I was lucky - no significant flight delays and travel was on time. Only one thing - time difference here is 8 hours comparing to my local time, hope I will not have any jet lag, at least I do not feel it now :)

I will have my presentation - Development with Oracle JDeveloper/ADF 11g Reusing 10g Best Practices on Monday, at 10:30 AM, Napoleon C3 room. It will be right after conference keynote. Everyone is welcome, I will do my best to explain how things in JDeveloper 11g work.

My second presentation will be during Oracle Fusion Middleware Product Briefing for Oracle ACE Directors. Oracle invited me to present about JDeveloper/ADF 11g projects I'm involved in. Presentation title - "Oracle Forms Conversion to ADF 11g at VGO". I will talk how we are adopting Oracle FMW 11g and how work is progressing.

ODTUG Kaleidoscope is one of the best Oracle technical conferences, I'm sure will get a lot of knowledge here by attending this year sessions - abstracts.

Topics that I will cover - new ADF BC features, ADF Task Flows, Templating, ADF Faces Rich Client.

I'll post detail information about my presentation, more close to the event.

Good news from me - my submitted abstract for ODTUG Kaleidoscope '08 conference is accepted :-)

Presentation title is - Development with Oracle JDeveloper/ADF 11g Reusing 10g Best Practices.

What about it will be? Presentation will be done in interactive way, like I did during Oracle OpenWorld Unconference in San Francisco - Oracle JDeveloper/ADF Real Life Story. I will show how knowledge acquired during development with Oracle JDeveloper/ADF 10g, can be applied when working with new Oracle JDeveloper and ADF release - 11g.
