RCU for 11.4 is not available ,so there is no point in installing FMW Component , Better is just install Jdev , Web center extension and play with it till release.

Hi Andrejus,

Is there any plug-in similar to "Webcenter PS3" extenson is available for eclipse OEPE(Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse) also?

Because we are planning to use eclipse OEPE for webcenter portal development. What do you suggest?

Regards,
Ramesh

No, its not available for Eclipse. And you can't do WebCenter or advanced ADF development in Eclipse, at least at the moment.

My question is straightforward want to check whether "Webcenter PS3" plug in is available for Eclipse OEPE?

Thanks in Advance,

Thanks Andrejus!

The problem came because our team is not very much comfortable with Jdeveloper.

Ramesh

Eclipse supports at the moment only ADF Rich Faces, and so far as I know, there are not even distant plans to support such products as WebCenter Extension.

Well, JDeveloper is amazing product, your team should get training.

Some architect from my team comments which even I didn't really agree what is your feeling on these:-
1)Webcenter stack only runs on Weblogic, licensing fees to attempt to run elsewhere. is this true?

2) Webcenter forces one into Vendor API, websphere is open standards based

Could you please help me to come out of all these.

Thanks ,
Ramesh

Well, these questions hardly can have any proper answers, because its all part of specific requirement and marketing.

But my personal answers:

1. No matter where you will run WebCenter, you need to pay license, even on WebLogic. Its only true for pure ADF, to run it without license on WebLogic

2. I'm not aware about any product from WebSphere product stack, even to be close enough to WebCenter. I don't see, why WebCenter locks into Vendor API, you can use portlets, add external sites if you want.

Can we embed any other open source framwork with ADF application also if required on other hand mean webcenter portal will also to integrate application or portlets which are developed in other APIs.

Hi Andrejus,
I have one question that we can easy develop webcenter portal application using jdeveloper supported PS3 extensions and we can deploy it in weblogic server also.

What is the role of webcenter portal server here than? http://abc:8888/webcenter. If we can develop and deploy application in wls server using jdeveloper than what is use of webcenter portal server. Sorry it bit confusing for me here.

Andrej Baranovskij said...

Port 8888 provides WebCenter Spaces, you can understand it as ready to use portal from Oracle, developed based on WebCenter Portal Framework and ADF. It costs extra license.

If you dont want this, you can create your own portal, just with WebCenter Portal Framework and ADF, and deploy it on WebLogic. You must have WebCenter runtime libraries on WebLogic of course.

Thanks ! It is clear to me.
One more question:
If we want to develop a application which needs use of UCM to surface in web center portal then we needed license for

1. Wls server
2. UCM

We don't need any licence for webcenter portal means webcenter suite here? my understanding is jdeveloper supports extension for webcenter portal which can be used here.

Could you verify please.

Andrej Baranovskij said...

For production deployment, additionally you would need WebCenter Portal Framework license (which is also called WebCenter Service license).

WebCenter extension is free to use, only in JDev.
